About the Project
The North Satellite Alaska Airlines Lounge at Sea-Tac Airport provides guests with a stylish and comfortable space to relax. The design was inspired by the Pacific Northwest’s natural beauty and focused on the concepts of “Come In, Take a Breath, Help Yourself and Cut Loose.” With an emphasis on relaxed elegance, the lounge features high-end finishes and lighting. Additionally, the floor to ceiling windows offers guests a premium view of the airfield, Mount Rainier and the Olympic Mountains.
The entry to the lounge, “Come In,” is open and welcoming with a custom wood concierge podium. The Western end, “Take a Breath,” is a calming place to read or work in private. It features a freestanding polished concrete hearth and custom lounge chairs looking out to the airfield. The center of the lounge, “Help Yourself,” hosts a generous casual dining area with a barista-staffed coffee bar and pre-flight snacks. A large walnut and patinated-metal bar encourages guests to relax, interact and “Cut Loose.” Built as an island in the round, it’s surrounded by herringbone-patterned stained oak flooring and flexible seating areas.
Construction included new restrooms, prep kitchen and mechanical spaces. The Alaska Airlines Lounge was built on the mezzanine level of the expanded North Satellite. The fast-tracked project required considerable coordination between multiple stakeholder groups to prevent disruptions to passengers and airport operations. It was a key component of the North Satellite Modernization Project‘s Phase 1 completion.
